To be completely candid, Father’s Day is a tough holiday for me. It’s filled with memories that make me smile, but also feelings of deep loss and sadness. Since unexpectedly losing my dad 10 years ago, I have cherished every memory of him, every word of wisdom he bestowed on me, and have tried to live my life in a way that he, and my mom, would be proud of. My dad was my real-life hero, accomplishing every huge, seemingly unattainable goal he set for himself, while living life with gusto and loving every minute of it. He was the life of the party, the guy everyone wanted to spend time with, and I was lucky enough to be his daughter.
I know this special bond I feel is not proprietary. It's shared by so many sons and daughters and their fathers. I love hearing what people admire and have learned from their dads. On this Father’s Day I’d like to celebrate all dads, and thank them for sharing their wisdom with all of us. We polled the Big T NYC community, family and friends, and are excited to share the top 12 lessons we’ve learned from our fathers. Some are invaluable and some are just plain hilarious.
It doesn't matter if they are homeless or the president, everyone deserves respect.
Kindness, honesty and appreciation are timeless virtues.
How we live our lives is the legacy we leave for our family.
There’s only one of you in this world. Let your uniqueness shine on!
Never underestimate the importance of education… be the person who continues to learn, grow and gets wiser with age.
Can’t underestimate the legitimacy (and hilarity) of this advice.
And don’t you forget it.
Perfectly put!
Work hard, and smart, to earn the life you want to live, then make sure you go live it!
Who are we to judge? Let’s focus on being the best in our own lives.
This is pretty sound business advice, haha. Know the worth of what you’re selling!
This advice is from my dad, Joe Krier. In a world where women sometimes feel like they have a pre-determined role to fill, my dad repeatedly told me and showed me that I could be anything I wanted to be. He taught me how to play the guitar, how to fly an airplane, how to buy a home, how to work for what I wanted, and most importantly, how to appreciate life and never take it for granted. Thank you, dad, for this and the million other life lessons you gave me. I am beyond blessed to have grown up with you as my father, mentor, and now, guardian angel.
Cheers to all the dads and their infinite wisdom. We love learning from you. Happy Father’s Day! xx

2019 was a big year for me... I got engaged to the love of my life, Matt, and we married at the end of November. It was the most beautiful, special day of our lives, surrounded by the people we love.
In the days after the wedding an article was being shared on Facebook about the significance of our special day. Happily indulging in my wedded bliss, I hadn't been on social media and didn't see the article until my friend sent it to me directly. I was blown away.
The article was written by Ellen Futterman, a woman who happened to be vacationing at the same place and same time that Matt and I were getting married. She beautifully and eloquently captured the spirit of our celebration. It's a special piece that I will cherish forever.
